How old do you have to be to get a tattoo?
You must be the legal age of 18 to get a tattoo at Trader Bob’s. We require a valid state issued ID or government issued passport for all services and we will not tattoo anyone, regardless of age without the proper identification.
Will you tattoo minors with parental consent?
No, at this time we do not offer services to minors. 18+ only with valid state issued ID or government issued passport is required by law.
Tattoo Pricing
Tattoo pricing depends on many different factors including size, placement, the amount of detail in the tattoo. Without a drawing, it is hard for us to give you an exact price but feel free to stop into the shop and one of our artists can give you a general estimate. Our shop minimum is $100 and our hourly rate is around $200 to give you a bit of a general price range. Please note that we will NOT under any circumstances give you a price estimation over the phone or through messages. Please feel free to let us know your budget up front as we are happy to let you know what is possible within the parameters you set for your tattoo.
The Dos and Don’ts of Getting Tattooed
Going to a tattoo studio is no different than patronizing a good restaurant. You are the customer and we are here to make your experiences the best we possibly can. In return, we have the right to expect you to conduct yourself in a civil, polite manner. To help make your next tattoo experience the best it can be, here is a list of Dos and Don’ts:
-DO NOT go into a tattoo studio if you’ve been drinking or if you’re under the influence of drugs. Show your artist some respect and come sober. Nobody likes dealing with drunks.
-DO NOT try to bargain with your artist. Bargaining in a tattoo shop is an exercise in bad taste and the quickest way to tick your artist off. You want quality, not a bargain.
-DO NOT brag to your artist about how cheap you got your other tattoos. You will not earn brownie points, and it SURELY won’t get you a better deal on a tattoo.
-DO NOT tell your artist about your buddy that tattoos in their house/basement/garage. Tattooing in a non-shop setting is frowned on in the tattoo community and will not make you seem cooler.
-DO look at the artists’ portfolios. Tattoos are permanent, so make sure your artist can put on a clean-looking tattoo. Pictures don’t lie, and if they don’t have a portfolio or Instagram page to reference, run.
-DO NOT ask your artist to draw something just to see if he/she can. There are people that come into the studio and ask for designs to be drawn without ever getting tattooed… Don’t be that guy!
-DO NOT bring a cheering section to the studio. Most shops will not let anyone accompany you into the tattoo area and it’s prohibited by law in some states. You are always free to ask, but very few artists want 5 of your friends crowding the work area while he/she is trying to mark you for life.
-DO NOT bring children to the tattoo shop. Tattoo studios are not a place for children, as there are many hazards that they could be exposed to. Children can also be a distraction to you, your artist, and other clients
-DO maintain personal hygiene and physical decorum. There’s nothing more unpleasant than having to work on someone who smells. You wouldn’t go to the doctor without bathing, so please do the same for your tattoo artist.
-DO tell your artist if you are feeling green or funny. Tell your artist right away (don’t try to tough it out), so that he/she can deal with it. Your artist is prepared for it and knows how to handle it.
-DO tip your artist. If you didn’t know that tipping your artist is customary, YOU DO NOW! Tattoo artists do not get paid an hourly wage, they earn a percentage of the money you pay for your tattoo and that’s it. If you receive exceptional service, show your appreciation by tipping. As a general rule, tipping 10% is a minimum, 15-20% is normal, and anything more is considered tipping heavily. You are able to tip via card but cash for tipping is always preferred.
A little common courtesy and etiquette can go a long way towards making your entire tattoo experience much more rewarding and pleasant.
